Customer Reviews
In common, I consider this is a extremely beneficial excellent monitor: the image and sound are at least as beneficial as other video infant monitors, battery life of the parent unit is really good, the range is very beneficial... We essentially bought this and the Summer Most beneficial View and tried them both out and in most methods I discovered them to be similar in overall performance.
The 3 hang-ups I have with the Avent monitor (and why we returned it):
1) The created of the base tends to make it particularly hard to view something that is essentially beneath it. For instance, if you want to have a bird's eye view of your baby's crib, it will be difficult to manage. Considering that the camera can not be wall-mounted it has to go onto a shelf and the camera angle can not be directed low adequate to make this function. For other types of applications this may possibly not matter but for us it made a major distinction (getting in a position to see directly into the crib versus looking by means of the bars of the crib).
two) The battery life on the amera (if not plugged in it runs on four AAAs) is not incredibly god. We set it up in our baby's room to attempt it out and the batteries did not final via the night (we set it up about 8pm and when I checked at 4am it was dead). I checked to make certain it was fresh batteries, similar story. If you are going to plug it in this will not matter but our kid likes to grab and shake anything that looks like a cord, so having the camera close to his crib with a cord is not a awesome thing. This wasn't necessarily a huge concern for us (it can be worked around) but due to the fact there was absolutely nothing else that separated it from the Summer monitor and the Summer was wall mountable, there was no reason to devote an additional $20 on this one particular.
3) This program is not expandable. A large number of monitors have the ability to link more than one camera to the exact same parent unit, this one particular does not at the moment have that capability.
My wife and I currently own a Philips Avent Fundamental Infant Monitor w/ DECT Technologies, but wanted to try this item out too and I was in a position to do a direct comparison. We did not initially get a video monitor as we felt uncomfortable with the Major Brother element of watching our infant via video. However, we have grown to like it and it saves us unnecessary trips to the nursery to see if our child is babbling and playing safely or is in want or support.
Here's what we like and dislike about this digital video monitor right after a couple months of use:
POSITIVES:
1. No interference with WiFi networks and cell phones: We have a big WiFi network with 4 wireless routers, and we live in a dense neighborhood where there are quite a few WiFi networks within range. We had no issues with reception on either monitor even when it was close to our iPhones, laptop, WiFi routers, and so forth.
two. No cross-talk between DECT monitors: Even side-by side and set up in the similar space, the two Phillips AVENT monitors caused no interference with every other. There is no cross-talk with the neighbor's child monitor either.
3. Great range: I've walked about 50 feet from baby's space with the video monitor, and the signal is still fine by way of several walls. The range may well be farther still -- I haven't tested the full range but.
4. Decent battery life: On standby mode, the rechargeable battery lasts at least five-6 hours. I have achieved about three hours of battery life with the monitor continuously on. Nonetheless, in each cases I haven't tested the complete battery life of the unit and the efficiency may possibly be even greater.
five. Uncomplicated setup: Plug it in and turn it on. You don't have to be a rocket scientist.
6. Night vision: Doesn't light up the area and is surprisingly superior. It has a bit of that safety camera, black and white look to the video, but it is perfectly good to see child in low-light conditions.
Require FOR IMPROVEMENT:
1. No 2-way communication: My wife and I like the 2-way communication feature on the Philips Avent Fundamental Infant Monitor w/ DECT Technology, but this AVENT Video monitor has no such two-way function. It is a handy feature for my wife and I to alert every single other from baby's area rather than yelling through the property.
2. Size: In the age of iPhones and the like, the parent video monitor appears like an oddly sizeable unit. It's too major to fit in a pocket, and too awkward to hang from a belt loop. Do not strategy on carrying this about the home too much.
