Consumer Critiques

Lorex LW2003 Live 'snap' Video Baby Monitor
Due to the fact the video review is not extremely detailed, I want to add a couple of additional comments. 1st, I absolutely recommend this monitor. I've listed some particular strengths and weaknesses below.
What I liked:
1. Very good range. In my two story home I got decent coverage all through. The signal was a little weak when I stretched it to its furthest attainable range, but I in no way lost the picture.
2. On the small screen the picture is crisp, with fantastic color. You will in no way have to wonder what you're seeing. Look carefully at the image on the video I took of the outdoors and you will see a crisp blue autumn sky with colorful foliage.
3. I consider the portability is a key function. The monitor can be removed from its base and slipped into a pocket as you move about your property. Very nice!
4. You can add cameras, all of which show up on the monitor. You can then pick which camera you want to "zoom" to on the screen. Hopefully you will not be monitoring 4 babies at as soon as, but the capability is there.
What I would like to see enhanced:
1. Client service! I usually attempt to test this in the course of a critique, given that it tends to be the "Achilles Heel" of present day commerce. I first let the customer service rep (Asian, but rather understandable) know I was writing a evaluation and had a precise problem I required solved (see beneath). It became clear right away that the rep was not familiar with the product. Following about 20 minutes he admitted he could not solve my issue, but he promised I would receive a return call or email inside a couple of hours. Following ten days I have heard absolutely nothing. Unacceptable!
2. The monitor is promoted as a camera which can take snapshots of your infant, and the advertisements feature beautifully lit images of babies. This is bogus. The camera has a whopping .three megapixels. This is perfectly fine for the tiny monitor screen, but attempting to use it as a camera to photograph your baby will outcome in a blurry, pixelated photo if you try to even print it 4x6. It puzzles me that Lorex even included a microSD card and adapter for you to transfer your photos to a computer system. You would not seriously attempt to photograph your stunning baby with a .three MP camera, would you? Which brings me to yet another point . . .
3. The reason I named consumer service was the image from the camera when I took a snapshot was not only rotated (readily fixed) but reversed. For instance, any printing would appear backwards. I am not certain if this is peculiar to the sample I received, but it is annoying to be certain. Yes you can fix this in a photo editor, but you shouldn't have to. I have no notion what's going on, and neither did customer service. The image is fine on the monitor screen, and the dilemma only shows up when you transfer a picture, which you are unlikely to do anyway given the poor resolution.
So let's sum up: I definitely like the Lorex Baby Monitor and I would absolutely get it. I take off 1 star for the failure of client service to respond to my difficulty and the misleading pictures which imply the monitor can be utilized to take fantastic good quality images. If you obtain it with the notion that you are only monitoring your baby (pets, and so on) and not capturing lifetime memories, you will be very happy.
So far I like this infant video monitor.
- The video superior is good
- Night vision works properly
- It functions even with my WiFi 802.11g, two.four GHz cordless phone, 2.4 GHz wireless speakers and a microwave oven.
- Battery life is wonderful. I've had the receiver on for 5 hours and the battery indicator is down to 33%. This is with VOX and Power Conserve each off.
- I dropped this 2x on our (hard) floor and it still works (phew).
- I expecially like the 2-way communication. I don't use it a lot to talk to our infant. I located it to be helpful when my wife is with our baby and demands to tell me a thing. Not only can I hear her via the handheld monitor but I could reply! It is like having a video walkie-talkie.
- Uses a micro-USB (I think) connector for energy. This is the very same connector utilized by some electronics (like my old Garmin nuvi 350, my Logitech Harmony 550 remote, etc). If you want an added charger in a different space you could probably use one you currently have that came with an additional item.
- The camera has a rechargeable internal battery. I obtain this convenient when I want to temporarily move the camera (i.e., to maintain an eye on our child when in her swing) with out fussing about energy cords. I do not know how extended the battery lasts as I only use it like this for a handful of tens of minutes.
Wish list:
- Help multiple handheld receivers (so extra than a single parent can monitor the child). I have not noticed any digital video infant monitors assistance this.
- It would be nice if the camera can be mounted on a tripod to make it significantly more transportable (i.e., bring it to my house workplace when bring the baby's bassinet there, etc).
- I wish the handheld had a flip-out stand so I can prop it up even though away from the charging base. This would be nice to have but not that vital for me.
What I don't like:
- The plastic looks and feels low cost
- The silver logo (not red and black as shown in item photos) looks even less expensive -- sort of like it was just spray painted on it (like an engineering project or a low cost Chinese knockoff... heck those even look superior in some cases). I know this is less important than the technical features but still, appearance does matter. The monitor provides off a inexpensive vibe in my opinion.
- Volume on the handheld monitor is kinda low
- A crib mounting bracket would be nice to have. I considered mounting the camera on the wall but it was too far from our infant (and she does not generally face the wall!). Instead, I strapped it onto the crib myself but will have to move it once the child gets older and can reach it.
What I hate:
- Sales and client service is a joke! I have never observed reside sales chat active and I've been checking for a month or longer. I sent an e-mail to consumer assistance and no one replied. I also left a voice mail for sales help and again no reply. [update 11/22/2011: Now tech assistance seems to be alot more responsive. I inquired about a replacement charging dock and received a prompt reply]
Recommended?
Sure! I nonetheless advise the item but all bets are off if you want technical support.
